چکیده

Linear collider (LC) interaction region beam sizes and component position stability requirements are expected to be a few nanometers[1]. It is important to show that the related tolerances can be achieved, with an electron beam if possible. Using recently developed component stabilization technology, very high-resolution beam position monitors (BPM’s), and the ultra-low emittance beam at the KEK ATF, we plan to demonstrate the required stabilization. Our first step is to develop highresolution RF cavity beam position monitors, using either C or X band frequencies. A C-band cavity BPM with a resolution of 25 nm has been reported in tests at FFTB [2]. By correcting for the effects of non-axial trajectories and using both position and angle BPM movers, we expect to be able to demonstrate a resolution of 2 to 3 nm over a dynamic range of +/20 um. We report on the progress of the tests here.

Linac Coherent Light Source Undulator Rf Bpm System *

The Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS) will be the world's first x-ray free-electron laser (FEL) when it becomes operational in 2009. The LCLS is currently in the construction phase. The beam position monitor (BPM) system planned for the LCLS undulator will incorporate a high-resolution X-band cavity BPM system described in this paper. The BPM system will provide high-resolution measurements of...

Cold Cavity BPM R&D for the ILC

A cold L-Band cavity BPM for installation in a SCRF cryomodule is currently under development at Fermilab. The BPM has to meet the ILC BPM specifications, i.e. < 1 μm single bunch, single pass resolution, going along with sufficient accuracy and reproducibility. Real estate limitations and the superconductive RF environment require some special considerations for this design.

Status of the Re-entrant Cavity Beam Position Monitor for the European Xfel Project

The European XFEL is a research facility, currently under construction in Germany. It is based on a superconducting electron linac including about 100 cryomodules based on the TESLA technology. Each cryomodule is equipped with a beam position monitor connected to a quadrupole at the high-energy end of the cavity string. Around one third of cold BPMs will be reentrant RF cavities. This contribut...

High Resolution Cavity BPM for ILC Final Focal System (IP-BPM)

Figure 1: IP-BPM Block ATF2 is an extension of ATF, a test facility for ILC accelerator development. ATF is the only facility today which can achieve beam emittance of the ILC specification. Experimental studies for ILC final focus is planned at ATF2, and is starting its operation at October, 2008. There are two main goals for ATF2. First, achievement of 35 nm beam size at the IP. Second, contr...

Comparison of Stripline and Cavity Beam Position Monitors

Operational principles of stripline and pill-box cavity beam position monitors (BPMs) are discussed. Their theoretically best achievable position and time resolutions are computed. Numbers are estimated using design values of the proposed e+e− linear collider TESLA. Introduction Important characteristics of a beam position monitor (BPM) are position and time resolutions. Position resolution is ...
